Hi everyone! I want to learn a few difficultish tunes. Preferably tunes that are good for the fleadh. Reels jigs hornpipes and slip jigs are my personal favourite tune types! If it helps, the type of tunes I like are ones such as O'mahoneys, pressed for time, abbey tavern, farewell to whalley range, Nightride to Armagh, etc etc
I've said to a few who've asked this question - The Belfast Hornpipe (Sweep's) is a great whistle tune that is complicated enough to impress, but easier to play than it sounds!
It has many names as you will see from the Details.
In Liverpool we always used to call it Seán McGuire’s.
One of the big session tunes for me, it has a great flow and really swings along, especially when the fiddles are there.
I can remember vividly the Sunday afternoon sessions in the old Irish Centre on Brownlow Hill and you’d have Eamonn Coyne Snr RIP, Eamonn Jnr, Seán Mac, Peggy, Big Mick Johnson RIP, Steve Keene, Sid Cassidy all producing such sweet fiddle sounds.
The change from this tune going into Jackie Coleman’s
Cool whistle tunes

Re: Cool whistle tunes
The Ballyoran Hornpipe (S. Ryan) is a nice, impressivish, difficultish tune.
For a reel, how about Bunker Hill, or The Spike Island Lasses?

or McMahon’s/Banshee

is quite subtle, but when everyone was on the change it just surged through! These were quite common sets we played.
All the best
