One trick is to send you an over-payment and ask you to refund the difference. Their payment subsequently bounces and you are out of pocket. If you've also handed over the sale item, so much the worse. The Scamwarners site is full of stories about fake PayPal accounts and the like - compulsive but depressing reading. Good luck finding a genuine purchaser.
|Kinda guessed!! So what would they do with my details??
My guess with this one is that they would get you to transfer the 'excess funds' to their 'shippers' before the cheque has cleared, then cancel the cheque, leaving you out of pocket.
Smells very fishy to me. They must have some way of scanning the web for *anything* that's up for sale for a worthwhile amount - clever, but not quite clever enough.
Good luck in finding a *genuine* buyer - and be ever vigilant.
Just cease any further communication and they will forget you. However, if they are presenting themselves as a member of that site, report them and get them axed. We've had a few over the years here, and they will show again and be deleted again...
Some of us have played them along and wasted a lot of their time, and there's stories of that online, but it really isn't worth the bother. Most of these originate in Nigeria, and a lot of banker's cheques have been stolen and used. They generally get treated as authentic and it can take a week or two for the slow inconsiderate bankers to find out it's a fraud. When that does happen, you are totally responsible for all costs. Even when you let them know it's questionable they can still have the police knocking on your door as if you were the guilty party.
It's a sad reflection on stereotyping, but the first clue I find in these things often is the poor grammar and odd syntax. I wonder if scammers statistically fare better when their use of language is more persuasive?
My neighbor fell for this exact scam, she had an Avon site and when the check arrived for $1000 over the amount they asked she cash it and return the overage. Cant believe she fell for it. Remember, if it smells funny its BS
I fell for the scam only to the point where I quoted a summers worth of music lessons and got two cashier cheques for $2,000.00. I turned them into the Postal Service. Later I read this posting from a guy who dealt with these bums in a funny way. Dang near busted a gut reading this thing: http://www.scamorama.com/yosemite_sam_linda_koffi.html
Well to be fair, they used to be lazy and bulk mail their emails from Nigeria. At least now they take the time to personally respond to advertisements.
It's true. Customer Service is the number 1 item that people appreciate.
I tried to log on to scamwarmers and got a message saying I was permanently banned from the site. I wonder what I did to upset them? I've never heard of them before. But I am now a lifetime fan of the late Yosimite Sam.
Is this a scam?

Re: Is this a scam?
Ask them to send you a Western Union payment, and take out the cash at WU.
