chris langon weekend Toronto

This is a wee reminder for those in Toronto and further afield to bookmark the first weekend in February for three days of concerts, workshops and sessions centred
around Irish traditional music. Lessons and Masterclasses are offered on Uilleann Pipes, Fiddle, Wooden Flute, Whistle, Guitar, Accordion and Dancing amongst
others. Two of Ireland's finest pipers in Robbie Hannon and Ciaran O'Maille are being flown over for the event which is becoming more popular every year (it's now in it's
eleventh) and attendees are coming from as far afield as Virginia, BC, New York, Winnipeg and other far flung locales. There are three concerts, Friday, Saturday and
Sunday, a Family Ceilidh, endless sessions where ever the musicians find a spare corner, beer and food. The whole shebang goes down at the Tranzac Club (Bloor and
Brunswick). This event is considered to be one of the finest of it's kind outside of Ireland and is the perfect cure for those deep mid-winter blues. Call Debbie Quigley,
416-269-9052 or e-mail her at psychopipes@hotmail.com for registration. More contacts are on the website, www.chrislangan.com If that isn't enough don't forget that
the Flying Cloud Folk Club host their regular show on Sunday night as well..............

Re: chris langon weekend Toronto

Chris Langan (1915-93) was an
inspiration to a generation of
younger Canadian musicians.
Arriving in Canada in the
mid-1950s, he brought with him
rich connections to Irish music
and language. An accomplished
piper, in Ireland he was pipe-major
of a well-known band based in
Rush, Co. Dublin. As a teenager
he was a competition step dancer
and later he learned both whistle
and uilleann pipes. One of his
teachers was the now legendary
Irish piper and pipe maker Leo
Rowsome.

Re: chris langon weekend Toronto

Zina, the weekend was started as a memorial by some of his students in Toronto. I'm going to be there with bells on.

Anyone else? It would be nice to meet some of these well-known strangers.

Night, all
