Marco, I'm not the one to be answering you, seeing as how I'm 6,000 miles the wrong side of the world, but there is rail service between Dublin and Limerick, which gets you close to Killaloe if you get off at Nenagh. For route maps and timetables, take a look at the Irish rail web site: http://www.irishrail.ie/home/.
Geez, wish I was young and footloose again...oh to be wandering into Killaloe, a future full of sessions in front of me. Have fun Marco, and keep us posted how you make out.
Killaloe? Beautiful place. Better off going Dublin to Limerick by train and a bus from Limerick to Killaloe, as it's slightly nearer to Limerick city than Nenagh and probably easier to get connecting services from Limerick. For the bus service, look at www.buseireann.ie. Plus as far as I know Dublin - Nenagh isn't a direct train route, there's a bit of changing and most of them go into Limerick first and then back out on the Nenagh line.

Re: Countdown
I got there by pushbike - it took about an hour and a half from Nenagh. But that was in July. It should be twice as quick in January.
