I am holidaying in America during the month of July, driving the west coast (San Diego to Portland) and taking in New York on the way home. I was just wondering can anyone direct me to any sessions I could take in while over there?
Well, some of them are on these listings.
My advice is to take down all possible details, and to check in advance if at all possible. We had some difficulty finding a session both open and within reach of our accommodation when on holiday in the North-East ( US ) a couple of years ago.
Holiday periods tend to be when things might be shut.
There is a session in Ashland, Oregon, Sundays, 2-5 at the Black Sheep pub. Ashland is about halfway twixt SF and Portland. July might be iffy, as people (like myself) are away on holiday, but there is always music. There is also a session in the town of Chico, north of SF, but I don't know the particulars.
There are a couple of sessions in Los Angeles, including The Auld Dubliner Sundays 4-7 - drop me an email I can give you more detail and contact info for the San Diego sessions. Have a great trip.
Sunday afternoon session at The Sleeping Lady Cafe in Fairfax CA, 2-5pm - that's in the San Francisco Bay area. There's also a Sunday night session over at the Plough and the Stars in San Francisco. The Starry Plough in Berkeley CA has a Sunday night session as well but apparently they play a a bunch of stuff that's not irish trad as well - which may or may not be your cup of tea.
Be sure to drop me or Michael Eskin an email through the board once you know when you will be in San Diego. It's always fun meeting other Irish musicians.
In New York, the O'neill's of a Sunday evening is pretty good, but you play *their* tunes, not the other way 'round. There is a good one later on Sunday at the 11th St; this is run by Tony DeMarco and is a bit more open.

Ceol in Brooklyn is a great little pub, but they don't have a sess evey sunday-- look them up online and email the owner to ask about specific dates.
