Try "Teach Yourself Irish" by Diamuid Ó Sé and Joseph Sheils, published by Hodder & Stoughton, ISBN 0-340-79984-6. It comes as book/cassette pack or book/CD pack. You should be able to get it through Amazon if you haven't got a suitable bookstore near you.

i would strongly recommend "Now your Talking" from Gill & MacMillan, Goldenbridge dublin 8 ..thats the pulshers so I'm sure it can be order from ..wherever ...it is a fantastic course in real Irish; Donegal (Ulster Irish) it is the only one that has been on TG4 ( ex telifis na gaeilge() it has videos and cassette
I have "Teach Yourself Irish" by Diarmuid Ó Sé & honestly I can't recommend it. On the audio version, the English & the Irish words fly by so rapid-fire, you have no time to practice pronunciation or even process what it is you just heard. (Maybe it's different if you listen in your home & can sit with the book & rewind, but I only have a cassette player in my car, & listen while on the road.) I got it from the reviews on Amazon.com, but I have to say, I was very disappointed. Sorry.
Emily, I was given TY Irish, which is how I know about it. I haven't seen any other courses, but I'd generally agree with your comments. TY Irish looks as if it may be aimed at the more academically minded market.
Anyway, at present I've got the higher priority of getting to grips with Dutch/Flemish, for family reasons.

I think the isbn number for 'now your talking' is 0 7171 2344 8
...it really is a good course, the videos and cassettes are presented Deirbhile Ní Churraighín and are very easy to follow.
