Risen from the Ashes

Risen from the Ashes

As some know the BLACKTHORNE RESORT in E. Durham NY suffered a terrible tragedy in Sept. 2010 with the huge fire that destroyed the main building. WELL like the Phoenix the BLACKTHORNE has risen from ashes. Newer & Better, Stronger, the Handel family has stood together and made tremendous sacrifice's to rebuild and move forward. The NEW main building is phenomenal with a beautiful wood floor dining room, fantastic new bar, huge organized kitchen. Most who were at the Blackthorne last year would not believe transformation from ashes to this new beautiful building. All activities for the year are on schedule and will be bigger & better than ever. So come back to the Blackthorne and be amazed..Ribbon cutting and grand opening Saturday May 21st

That is very cool that it could be rebuilt in such a short amount of time!

Re: Risen from the Ashes

I am glad of it. There were some great sessions there last summer during the Catskill's Irish Arts Week. One in particular with Liz Carroll, Felix Dolan and others.

Can't get there this year. Our Baby is getting married in NYC that weekend and Herself expects me to be there and walk her down the aisle.

Re: Risen from the Ashes

The Blackthonre Resurrection is truly miraculous and really happened under four months from when the insurance clearance came through. Official ribbon-cutting happened yesterday and Yvonne Furlong was among the guests invited for it and she has donated some of the sports memorabilia from her recently closed Furlongs Bar to the new Pub there. It also looks like she may be working with them there for the Catskills Irish Arts Week which would be a great symbolic move that could help restore some of the great craic that Furlong's was famous for.
