Jeez Conan, I cant decide between reed making, pipe measuring or slow airs in the afternoons! I normally get out around 6; first in , last out. Then I steam in to the pubs for sessions, Guinness and craic staggering home about 1, then up for the morning workshops... so if yr still at it when I get out.....
That early eve is a good time actually, often the afternoon sessions have fizzled and night time sessions not yet 'coalesced' so theres space to actually sit down!
Yep Ill be there, looking forward as usual. I do wish somone would open up Malones Field as a campsite again it was very handy.
I can taste the pints already in Friels ....anybody remember some guy singing Sunny Afternoon in Friels while the Gards were really p*ssed of at 3am in the morning??
Nice to hear from you folks.
Piobagusfidil, I know what you mean. I was considering doing the set-dancing classes again as I am a bit rusty; only problem is, it's down at Spanish Point. How am I going to make it back to town in time for the piping recitals? Might just go for a session blow-out.
As for the start time of the session.org session - when you tell people 2pm, that really means 3pm; if you get there on time, that's really just to ensure a decent seat, a doorstep sandwich and a few warm-up pints.
This will be my first year going. I'm sure this has been asked hundreds of times but does anyone have any recommendations when it comes to good sessions. I've heard all the really good ones are out of town. I'm lookin for some during the day but mostly at night. Thanks
I won't be there as we decided hiking, climbing, and wild spaces are more for us this year, but in any case, Kevin, you just have to wander around and stick your head in all the pubs. There is no guaranteed good session anywhere or at any time. That said, Miltown Malbay after 8 or 9pm is a feckin' madhouse and best avoided. We always went to one of the outlying villages at night, which had slightly quieter pubs and less street fights.
'There is no guaranteed good session anywhere or at any time.'
They''re there though if you look. Emily, there was one afternoon you were in the Blondes with a few guys while in the first backroom Padraig MacMathuna and Conny Connell were working away and in the next room that Rick Epping and a bunch of Sligo fiddle players were flying.
That's my point, Peter. You have to look. One day it might be Padraig MacMathuna playing, the next day or even three hours later you could have a completely dire session in the same place.
Willie Clancy week 2011

Re: Willie Clancy week 2011
Look for our wee shop next to An Siopa Beog. The Moose and I will be selling flutes, concertinas, violins, and a hundred old American banjos.
