The wonderful Kate Bush was interviewed in the Irish Times on Friday last. One of her quotes was: 'My mother was Irish, so I was brought up listening to Irish music, as well as English folk music. There’s something about Irish traditional music that’s really special. A big part of me is Irish, and any time I hear uilleann pipes I really feel that.'
"And his spark took life in my hand and hmmm yes, I said hmmmmm yes." And then there's that fancy exploding twiddly bit from Davy Spillane. Brilliant, sex and a sense of humour. What could be better.
I used to know her big brother, Paddy, back in the days when dinosaurs still roamed the streets of Camden Town, and he never told me he had a kid sister.
Perhaps wisely.
She lived a few minutes walk away from where I lived in SE London when she recorded Wuthering Heights . It's like a dream to me that Kevin Burke was featured on some of her early recordings. His home was still in SE London at that time. Anybody throw some light on that?
I've also loved Kate Bush in my young day's, Even thought she
squealed and rolled about a lot .
Although it would likely not have had the same appeal for me if she was a grab a granny at about 60 odd !
: )
I know I started it, but I'm really disappointed with the level of smut on this thread.
Let me drag it back please. If we are going to talk about pop music I'd like to say that Kate Bush and Björk (I hope the umlaut works) are my favourite pop stars.
What can us diddlers learn from pop music? I think it's the visceral. I think that all good music has to have a visceral quality and that element is often lost in otherwise decent diddley.
I am quite certain that I am unsure of what point you are trying to make llig. Both artists that you mention surely come with a deep penchant for the intellectually stimulating side of things. I, of course, also love both of them but not at the same time.
Special!
Special!

I much prefer the kid from Ennis -- in the other thread -- who people put down.

Re: Special!
I think her uncle had a big influence on her. His name was Bernie but everyone called him Burning.

It's apparently John Sheahan.

Hey Jim,,, "Even though she squealed and rolled about a lot"

Maybe she was a human fiddle :P
Anyway the rumours about Kate being a lesbian are all false and her lesbian girlfriend didn't write the following tune.. http://www.thesession.org/tunes/display/629

Re: Special!
I'm saying that diddley music, especially here, is often over-inerlectualised. There is no beauty in the pernickety
