Re: Selling my 1930's Tenor Banjo

Hope you don't mind, but I've given this a wee plug, over on the Irish Tenor Banjo:

I'm a little curious to know how you are able to date this Banjo, given that you don't know the maker.
However, that said, a good pot is of course, always going to be a good pot!
...... no folks, I'm not talking Snooker here! :-P

Anyway, good luck with the sale.
Cheers
Dick

Re: Selling my 1930's Tenor Banjo

Ok, sorry abpout that Ptarmigan, should really have said estimated ca 1930's, as when I got the instrument, there was a small old piece of paper handwritten which said ca 1930 on the inside of the pot which fell to pieces after about a year. I think it may have been put there by a luthier or someone like that. I had been told by an expert, he thought it may be a Slingerland. They made loads of these unmarked instruments in the 20's/30's.
And thanks for the plug on Irish banjo too.

Re: Selling my 1930's Tenor Banjo

It looks like your banjo pot was made by Slingerland, Chicago, Illinois, U.S.A.. The "Pal" ($125 in 1927), the "Comrade" ($90 in 1927) and the "De Luxe" ($250 in 1927) models were gold plated.
The Maybell "Style B" was nickel plated but your pot could have been replated gold. All three of the above were in the Late Series that started production in 1927.

The name and model would have been stamped on to the dowel stick which has been removed. The head size should be 10 3/4" high crown
