This isn't a "Discussion" , this is blatant commercial advertising. If you want to tell us about new "Recordings", post track listings and comments in that section, not here. Just my opinion.
It's a discussion forum, not his private billboard. He's had his go, I say it's enough already.
If he were a participating member of the community, I might object a little less, but he doesn't even have the grace to stay around for an argument. It'd be like someone wandering in to your session and making a little speech about his record store, just down the way, thanks, and then leaving.
also there is nothing stopping Kenny et al from ignoring this thread if they don't like the content. It's not compulsory to give one's opinion. The comparison with someone wandering into your session...wtf...are you trying to say this is your particular discussion he walked into?
No. Are you trying to say the place where you play is your particular bar? All the same, you'd be annoyed by that sort of behavior, I think, just as some people are annoyed by this here.
Now, is it good or bad to know when your marketing strategy is p*ssing people off? What do you think?
Not a thing, and the comparison is pretty desperate. Peter's contributions here include a lot of informed talk about the music and a lot of good craic as well. In addition, I see no indication that he's involved in the release of this record - in other words, he's passing on something of interest, because it's something of interest.
Your only contributions here are to promote your website - nothing wrong with running a website, and I hope you make a million dollars, but that means the only reason you come on here is to remind people to pay your rent.
I see a difference. Now if you were to be a little reasonable about it, I wouldn't kick - and in fact, I haven't kicked, except to point out that those complaining can reasonably feel a bit annoyed by this.
When you add in your tremendous bad taste in sock-puppeting your way in here in the beginning, you can hardly expect people to have a warm feeling towards you. You're acting like a leech. Cut it out. A post once in a while reminding us that you've got a web site for music sales, that's reasonable. Quarterly, that would be reasonable. Weekly is a bit much. But give us time to forget before you remind us.
Since you asked, I would have thought there are 2 basic, and obvious, differences between the "Prof's" post and yours. He was informing people of an event due to take place in Co. Clare to launch the re-issue of a very rare but significant recording, but more importantly, he doesn't stand to personally make any financial gain from his post.
You're not winning many friends her with your attitude, and probably losing potential customers in the process.
"mickeyfong" - I'll comment on any thread here that I choose to, and I'll also make my own decision as to which threads I ignore.
The Guidewires launch took place on 20 April by the way, in Glór in Ennis. Jig away the Donkey is one I saw for sale at the Willie Clancy summer school, it was launched in Ma y 2010. So if anything, you're hardly bringing 'news' .
Thinking about it, I shouldn't make that sort of posts early in the morning. I saw a poster for the donkey one, with a launch date but I am not actually sure when and where I saw it. I shouldn't have mentioned that at all.
I think something went astray, I was basically asking if there is something wrong with posting CD launches. Point taken, I will only post new CD launches/reissues once a month. Should they be placed somewhere specific, even its a reissue? And more importantly, can members actually see it as news, or does it satisfy <10 members?
I think the advice to stop spamming was a good one. And a clear one too. Really. If your only engagement with the forums has to do with the stuff you sell, it will not be appreciated.
@celticturntable: Launches & concerts can be posted in the Events section. New recordings can be added in the Recordings section. Comments, such as availability, can be added in the Comments portion of those sections. However, it's kind of spamming to indicate, for instance, for Conal O'Grada's 2nd CD, that you have it back in stock. After all, it's still in print, and is available at plenty of other sources, including CD Baby, etc. That you've got some available again after any absence isn't really worthy of note. I don't post every time I go to the storeroom to "restock" copies of Wooden Flute Obsession. Announcements of Recordings previously not available on CD (formerly only LP or cassette issue) would likely be welcome.
BTW, one can indeed easily see if new postings have occurred in any of those sections by viewing the Comments without using a specific search. They are listed in order of appearance (just be sure to use an appropriate "Subject" line to make it obvious what your addition is regarding. So, I have no problem seeing what new recordings have been released (or at least what new details have been posted). Indeed, it's how we keep up.
@kkrell. There you go, the best piece of actual advice I've received. I will absolutely do that... I didnt think there was a way of posting new CDs in my shop that people wouldnt get all up-started about. Then again, I may have missed it in the literal onslots. Thank You!
Actually, I think the best piece of advice may have been from those suggesting you become a participant in the site and its discussions about the music, and thereby perhaps become a welcomed asset. Surely there must be something you can offer?
Im trying. I comment on what I know best (Intrument Setups, Tunings, Recording, NorthAmerican Tunes, etc), locality/pubs/sessions arent my strong points given my geography. I know most Canadian Irish Musicians as I've probably played with them as some point over the years. Our repertoire of tunes are very different than what I hear from live sessions in Ireland. We play a strong mix of Acadian/Cape Breton/French Canadian/Irish here on the east coast. Most of my contributions have been on youtube under the k4hx1 channel. But I will contribute more content. Thanks for your help.

You beat me to it, Kenny.
If Celtic Turntable isn't already in the 'Links' section, then it should be and that should be it as far as the company is concerned.

Wow, you guys are a tetchy bunch!
(I'm no fan of blatant spamming either, but come on! I never look at the recordings section anyway, so I would never know if there were new CDs)

"Nothing wrong with that one Kenny & Jon Kiparsky?"
Which are you -- ignorant or arrogant? Both?
I fell into this thread because it looked like I'd see something about some new CDs, from someone who's giving me an honest opinion.
Your's isn't an honest opinion.
Now when I see celticturntable I won't bother to look. And you know I won't buy anything from you or your site.
