Tune confusion

Tune confusion

Folks -
I'm working on learning a set off an Album called Leitrim's Hidden Treasure / McNamara family. The Miss Dunbar set (track 4) has a second tune called Green Fields of America, but it is not this tune;

X: 1
T: Green Fields Of America, The
M: 4/4
L: 1/8
R: reel
K: Gmaj
c2ec B2dB | AGAB AGEF| ~G3E DEGB | AGAB AGEG |
c2ec B2dB | AGAB AGEF | ~G3E DEGA|BGAF G3z :||
GABc d2ef | gage dBGB | c2ec B2dB | AGAB AGE2 |
~g3d efge | dcBG AGEF | ~G3E DEGA | BGAF G3z :||

I am wondering if anyone knows this album and by what other names this 2nd tune in the set might be known.

(premeptive Llig block - yes I'm learning by ear - I just want to know the name...)

Re: Tune confusion

There's a 20-page booklet accompanying that CD. See notes for track 4 on page 10.

I'd recommend that CD to you Jim - not sure how easy it is to find these days. Let me know if you get stuck.

Re: Tune confusion

Hi Jusa, what I do in that situation is learn the tune as best I can from the recording. If I want a name, I figure out a few bars in ABC format - usually a tune has a catchy phrase that makes it that tune and not another.

Go to the Reverend's excellent search engine http://www.abctunesearch.com or others like TunePal - type it in, press search and 9 times out of 10 - the answer pops up. The 'fuzzy logic' used in these engines ensures that you don't have to have it note for note - it'll get the best fit.

Re: Tune confusion

'Leitrim's Hidden Treasure' seems to be still available directly from Brian McNamara.

Re: Tune confusion

Kenny - you don't happen to have those liner notes do you? I don't actually have the album, I'm learning it from a fiddle player here in my town who's relatives in Ireland sent her the recording.

Hussar, good idea - I may just have my friend play it into tune pal and see what comes up...

Re: Tune confusion

The liner notes from the recording state that the tune came from the Grier collection where it's called Green Fields of America. The notes further state that the tune is called 'Miss Brady' in he Kerr, Levey and O'Neill collections. It's also found in the Roche collection as 'Considine's Grove.
