Hi there.
Following the discussion on tunes which make you cry, I'm posting this to have your suggestion about tunes you would play to girls to have one more chance, you know what I mean
I'm not that good whistle player, but I found to be pretty successful "An feochan" (easy air but pretty hard to interpret) and "Caoineadh Cu Chulainn", which sounds beautiful on a low whistle.
I'm waiting for you hints, hoping that this post didn't offended anyone, it was not my intention.
Not because of any connotations of the name, as girls other than tradheads don't *know* the names: just because it is the dullest and most lacking in erotic potential of all tunes in the trad firmament. It is quite detumescent.
But no - all those tune names freighted with innuendo are lost on the fair, who just don't know them. Unless they are tradheads, in which case they will just know them as "that one", "that other one", "the one Dave got from Milton Malbay", and so on, like the rest of us.
Come on guys, give us a bit more credit. Some of us know a fair bit about this music (or try to anyway).
For the record Jusa, banjo is my favourite instrument.
I think it dose not really matter what tunes you play her, but if you can play your whistle anything like this young man, you might stand a chance - lol..
Please rate the following instruments in terms of sexiness, with 1 being "You're practically being shagged in the pub while playing it" and 10 being, "They would not touch you with a bargepole even if you were the last man/woman on earth."
1. Guitar - "Can you do any John Mayer? I LOVE him."
2. Uilleann pipes - "Have you guys played the song from Titanic yet?"
3. Fiddle - "Don't the Dropkicks use one of those?"
4. Flute - "Is that a clarinet? I love swing music."
5. Harp - "You're the most f***ed up angel I've ever seen."
6. Whistle - "It's okay, baby. Or course it goes all the way down to Bb. Everyone has a bad night."
7. Hurdy-gurdy - "Your monkey is SO CUTE."
8. Didjeridoo - "What else can you do with that pipe?"
9. Accordion - "La Vie en Rose was my grandmother's favorite song."
10. Banjo - "My friend says you have a real purty mouth."
Hmm - interesting perspective. I notice concertina is missing!!
It is off the chart, but which way? I think from my male perspective, I'd put female accordion players at the top of the list
and female concertina players second. I have no idea why - it's
the same reason I have for liking redheads.
Uilleann pipes
Fiddle
Whistle
Flute depends on the gender of the player, sorry it just does and it's placement will fluctuate at least 4 points depending
Didjerido's are too stoned to be sexy
guitars are boring
Irish banjo up
bluegrass banjo down
Accordion and harp are celebate metrosexuals who would just like to talk and hang out.
Well, all I know is that a fiddler with good intonation learns to find the same exact spot, within a millimeter, again and again and again...at speed, without looking, whilst maintaining rhythm.
I've personally played tunes with her in SF and I can honestly say that there are few out there that can match her unbridled energy, enthusiasm, and stamina for getting things fired up in the session!
"again and again and again...at speed, without looking, whilst maintaining rhythm."
Sounds like one of those robots on the Ford assembly line, Eliza Jane.
Nothing like the classic romantic sound of the mandolin, used by every successful serenader since Romeo...oh, right, didn't work out too well for him, but he forgot to watch for the future in-laws...
"Nothing like the classic romantic sound of the mandolin, used by every successful serenader since Romeo."
Nothing like a bit of embellishment....
Reminds me of those swashbuckling movies set in the 18th century and there's some lowly deckhand playing a concertina - decades before it was invented.
Nay lad, there were no mandolins in Arthur Brooke's day - not even Billy Shakespeare's day. 'Twas the humble lutenist giving it laldy.
Thanks all of you for your replies ;)
I'm not trying to have a chance with one girl in particular, but I'm trying to take advantage of my whistle passion with girls in general ;)
It's a good way to invite girls at home since I can't carry my whistles all the time with me, but then you have to surprise them someway..
Btw, I quote that a good tonguing technique might help...should definitely practice more often
I'll check the tunes u gave me, and will look where to focus on!
Think you have the wrong idea. The photo is obviously afterwards - he han't tucked his shirt in. And that's no whistle, just the biggest woodbine I've ever seen.

Yeah, I tried that music playing thing to girls. I once went to a park and I played a tune there with me flaute. A girl came up to me and I didn't know how to act because I was too shy then.
She saw that I didn't know how to cope with her interest. I think that men are made to chase women. Just do it the old fashioned way. Use pick up lines. Well, I had to get over my shyness first. And using lines really helped. I remember finding some lines from this site http://pickuplinesblog.com/ and using them without any luck in the beginning.
After only about one month, I felt like a mack daddy. I didn't need music anymore
I haven't gotten laid since I took up the fiddle which was about 6 years ago, damn has it been that long? I should go back to guitar, I had much better luck.

You should love your whistle more than any mere girl.
The coorect question therefore be...........
"How do I finda girl that will buy me whistles?"
Surprisingly, I can't advise, I'm still looking !!
Best not let the current Mrs Orme hear me say that mind !!
Fiddle seems to be the instument for picking up the ladies - what do you say Jim ?
