I recently picked up my Hohner Black Dot BC box after a year-long hiatus. Everything was going swell until I tried to play a C note, which occasionally sounds horribly out of tune. So, my questions are:
1) What's wrong?
2) Can I fix it myself? (I'm reasonably mechanically inclined and patient, but I don't know what I'm getting myself into. I have access to all sorts of screwdrivers and the like, but don't have any accordion tools (if they exist))
Any pictures/videos/website links would be appreciated.
Melodeons do go out of tune. You can either undertake the learning curve of tuning yourself, or have someone retune the box. Might also be a wonky valve causing it to go flat.
Yes, by all means try us on melnet (above) for help. All you need to open a squeezebox is a carpet tack lifter and maybe a small screwdriver. Unless you are particularly cack-handed, no harm can be done by opening the thing up to havea look-see. Even I can do it!
I know you can tweak harmonica reeds yourself, if you're brave. Might just be dirt, or alignment.
(see http://www.leeoskar.com/maintenance.html)
But at worst you're down 30 quid if you screw up (on a 10-hole diatonic)

I live in Charlottesville, VA if that matters.
