so here's my story, I've got a honer double ray that I've been playing for a couple of years (not very well but that's a different thread) and I"m thinking maybe it's time to trade up only because I want a new one. Problem is there are no shops in my area, so no opportunities to try something new. Any thoughts?
PS west coast USA
I had a hard time with that when I needed my Hohner repaired a few years ago. There was nobody on the west coast, it seemed, who was willing to work on a two-row.
Lark In the Morning, in Seattle (maybe other locations now, I don't know) will have some boxes, but they skew towards the bottom-end. Come out to Mass, and visit the Button Box, they'll have some options to try.
I don't understand, there are loads of people on the left coast who work on diatonic accordions.
If no shops near you offer new diatonics for sale, try going to sessions and looking for a fellow squeezer who has a different accordion. Portland is a big city, there must be other box players nearby.
Alternatively you could send your double-ray to Irish Dancemaster in Florida, have new reeds put in it, maybe get the action set to your liking, and have pretty much a brand-new box.
