We had another big earthquake just a couple of hours ago. Its epicentre turned out to be west of Tokyo, where I live, that is hundreds of miles away from that of the very first one. Hope noone is hurt this time.
Hope *you* are OK Hiro. We all really feel for you and your country, but these are just words.
As for Karine Polwart, she is a great singer. I got an album of hers a few years ago and really loved it.
that's 'shruti', not shutri. i've seen them used quite effectively for drone accompaniment by musicians whose hands were busy (fiddling, for instance), playing it with a foot. many years ago now - it may be trendy, but not new.
and, yes, best wishes from afar . . . and condolences.
Thanks for posting this, slainte, Ms Polwart is one of the musicians that I consider to be a gift from God, a reminder that mortals can aspire to the creation of pure beauty!
And you and your countrymen are in my thoughts and prayers.
Though electricity supply and transportation are disrupted, people in Tokyo areas do the best to commute and work as usual in order to keep this country alive. I myself attended a regular session and played tunes with others to keep the session and the pub alive.
The victims of tsunamis and those still taking shelter near the nuclear power plant are in my prayers.

Karine Polwart Singing a Lullaby
Just before going to bed, I found a clip of Karine Polwart singing a lullaby: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jSsmZsZhVac

All the best to you and everyone in Japan, slainte.
And thank you for posting that Polwart clip! I LOVE her! Does anyone know what that box is that she's playing with?

Re: Karine Polwart Singing a Lullaby
It's what's known as a "Shutri Box"

and they seem to quite fashionable these days. I daresay it makes a change from the ukelele.
We're all thinking about you, Slainte, and your country at this very troublesome time. Take care.

Wow, weird. The things I learn on this site! I guess it's handy if you don't feel like lugging around a whole accordion. Thanks.
