Duog Tipple flutes, best choice I ever made

Duog Tipple flutes, best choice I ever made

Hi.
I just wanna give my 2 cents in defense for Mr. Doug Tipple flutes. I have had one for 2,5 years now and this has taken my longer than any of my other flutes. True, they could look more beautiful but as a beginner that's rarely what you are focusing on anyway. Other than that I can only say that as with everything else it's a matter of opinion. As far as the looks and the feels of how to play comes. I mean, it's a matter of opinion if you think red is a nice color but you can't argue that it's red, right?
Same goes for these flutes.

Can you get the "irish" sound out of it? Absolutely!
Does it sound good? To my ear it does.
How about 2nd octave? I can play it far better than any other flute I have tried being wood or delrin/PVC, cheap or expansive. (And I haven't used the "wedge" that makes it easy yet!!!)
Do they look nice? That's a matter of opinion.
Are they better than other irish flutes in the same price category? I don't know, 'cause I didn't need any other after this.
Is it easy or difficult to play on? Easy. You just need to practice like in every thing else. But you only need to learn the basics.
Is it for both big and small hands? Yes. I have really small hands and it's a dream to play for me.

Who am I to tell if it's good or not? No one in particular. Just a guy using it for a long time and thereby having experience with it. I have other good flutes, more expansive ones that are nice too, but this one has taken me longer than any of those. And a good thing with PVC is that since you don't need to maintain it like wood it's the most obvious and logic choice to pick up when you don't have so much time on your hands in the busy everyday life.

Or to compare it with something everyone can relate to. Think about it like your everyday cloth and your sunday cloth. Your everyday cloth is comfortable, it's nice and it's what you'll use most often and in some cases what you get to like the most. The sunday cloth is nicer than the everyday cloth but isn't necessary more comfortable. It's nice to look at but some how you relax more and have a better time in your everyday cloth.

As I started out, it's all about opinion, but since there so many posts about how you shouldn't get a PVC or that Dough flutes doesn't sound that good, I just thought I'd come with my opinion which is based on personal experience and facts!

Tipple flutes are fantastic and I end up recommending them to a lot of people because they sound great and are almost impossible to break. I don't have one made by Doug myself but I have used the directions he has on his site and made one myself, great little travel flute.

Doug Tipple doesn't need any defense.
Besides, they're lousy for plumbing, what with all those holes in the pipe.

It pleases me to hear that people enjoy playing my flutes. I am interested in receiving audio files or, better yet, videos of people playing my flutes to add to my YouTube channel. It can be ITM or any other genre or style of music. You can contact me at:

Best wishes, Doug
