Cad é Sin don Té Sin

Cad é Sin don Té Sin

Hi

I'm really interested in learning this song, however I don't speak Irish and would love if someone could tell me how to find the words spelt phonetically... I have tried listening to it several times but I dont think I can get the words exactly right??

Marian,
if your still living in kerry then the best way of getting the text phonetically is to ask an irish speaker or teacher to recite it while you write down what you hear. You´ll find the the normal text on the web. And remember, depending on where the singer of the version you have comes from, the pronounciation could vary.

If you can't find an Irish speaker, you could try this:

Trinity College's helpful pronunciation page.

You can sing anything you want as long as it makes you happy.

Re: Cad é Sin don Té Sin

That's pish, cg.f. When I was in a choir years ago we sung all kinds of Latin songs and no one in that choir spoke a word of Latin. We also did songs in Russian, Spanish, Italian....

At uni the choir I was in first year did the Carmina Burana, which has bits in German as well as Latin. Are you saying that our choir director should have scoured a very small college campus for 100 people who were fluent in German and Latin before doing that piece *and* could sing? He wouldn't have found them.

Máire Brennan sings a very nice slow version on one of teh Clannad albums - you might find it easier to pick up the prononciation from this, and in authentic blas Ghaoth Dobhair
