New releases of old recordings or past masters ~ HALLELUJAH!!!

"Donncha Ó Briain: Irish Traditional Music on Tin Whistle"

http://claddaghrecords.com/WWW/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=3250

I can think of a ton of recordings I worry would never be re-released, wishing they would, wanting others to enjoy the earful, even if the great character behind them isn't around to fill in the full context of the experience ~ well ~ here's one, HALLELUJAH!

Yes, I recommend it, and I wish you could have known the man behind the music, but at least you can enjoy his music again.

There's more, but I'll leave space for others to share with us any re-releases or ~ the news that a recording of dear old cantancerous Neallie Boyle is soon due for release!

It makes me want to celebrate... ;-) There is hope...

Another fine musician worthy of a listen...

Re: New releases of old recordings or past masters ~ HALLELUJAH!!!

Huzzah! I've been waiting for this ever since seeing Doncha's performance on COME WEST ALONG THE ROAD, volume 1 IIRC. Is his book of tunes available anywhere?

Re: New releases of old recordings or past masters ~ HALLELUJAH!!!

There is also a gem of an album which was released on the now defunct Outlet record label called The Ulster Outcry from 1974 which featured most of the O Briain family including Donncha. Very hard to find now but amazing unbounded wild session music, worth digging out if you can find it. I have a vinyl copy somewhere, at my aunts in Leitrim, as soon as I get a flat or accommodation in Galway I will set my usb turntable to the task and transfer this lovely to digital.

Thanks c!

Brilliant link; looking through the list of what other people bought, brought back many happy (and some sad, if you think of Frankie) times.

Did you see the link for Tansey/McKillop? Sadly they've got the photograph reversed and Seamas is now a right-handed flute player, and Jim now a left-handed fiddler!

All the best

Re: New releases of old recordings or past masters ~ HALLELUJAH!!!

That got a laugh Brian, thanks, being a lefty myself, though I play most things right handed...

Thanks to SCots_Niall for creating envy. I wish. But I should have also mentioned, for the pipers amongst us, that the O'Briain family contributes their talents to Donncha's on this recording too...

Re: New releases of old recordings or past masters ~ HALLELUJAH!!!

Me too c!

When I started out most instruments I found required both hands, so I tended to play them the orthodox way; I reckoned you had to use both hands...however I did start on the harp the other way though, and sometimes still play with left on top!

Calligaraphy and painting though, very much left, though for demonstration purposes I 'll show that pupils can write with the other hand!

What freaks people out though, is when you can show them (using their comments, to prove it's not rehearsed) that you can write upside down and backwards, as freely as writing forwards.

All the best

I'm no Leonardo da Vinci, but ~

Now I'm getting a good off topic chuckle. I too have no problem writing right to left and mirror image, as was the so-called secret language of Leonardo da Vinci. The hell for me was learning longhand music notation and having to be so careful, which I would guess would be similar to calligraphy, something I also had an interest in despite the threat of my left palm. ;-)

Back on topic, news on the Neillidh Boyle recording that despite delays it is still scheduled for release before the Summer, if memory serves me right. Fingers crossed...

Re: New releases of old recordings or past masters ~ HALLELUJAH!!!

I've had a copy of the Néillidh Boyle recording for more than a month, but it's still not shown on the Cairdeas website, nor is it listed by Claddagh, Amazon or Celtic Grooves. I wonder what's happening. After all, it's now more than two months since the collection was launched at the FKWS.

Néillidh Boyle recording ~

I wrote them and got a response within the month saying there were delays but that it would be released soon, but by your account maybe that's 're-released'? Mac, can you submit it and the tune list and other information to the 'Recordings' here, please?
