The first time I heard the album it didn't even strike me as strange, until I realised I wasn't listening to tunes a minute later! Its just rare that I don't listen to trad so it took a little while.
Ah, Danny, Mumford and Sons are the future of Britfolk, don't you know. The fact that they have very little to do with folk music and everything to do with good marketing is an entirely different matter.
Jaysus, the purists lose out again.
All the purism does is make ye cranky, and you miss out on some great music.
For everybody else - try this - no fancy light show, no backing tracks, no dancers, no effects. Four voices, a guitar, a banjo, one microphone: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x_NbNcocz7M
Nice. Sound like a Purist imititaion of Crosby Stills Nash & Young - but still good. So what am I supposed to do? Effuse over these lads? They are this generation's folkie-harmony band. And good. But I already had been there.
The utter shame of these latter-day bandwagon-jumpers !
I've heard that the Corrs also put the occasional traditional tune into their concerts. The brazen-faced cheek of the hussies !
Mumford & Sons using part of an irish tune
Mumford & Sons using part of an irish tune
The beginning sounds mighty familiar, eh?

I noticed that but I thought I was just going crazy from practicing so much that everything sounded like trad tunes. I'm glad I'm not going crazy...

Mumford and Sons are great. I love the album. Not seen them live yet but hopefully will at some point.
