Michael McGoldrick Aurora Track 6

Michael McGoldrick Aurora Track 6

Please someone put me right. Track 6 starts with Stone of Destiny according to the CD cover but this isn't the tune which is listed under this name. What is it? The cover says that it comes from Kathleen MacInnes.

Re: Michael McGoldrick Aurora Track 6

There are 2 tunes with that name. Actually there is really only one. I think the tune "Stone of Destiny" was written by Charlie Lennon.

The tune on Mike's album is properly called "Oran No Cloiche" which means "Song of the Stone". It has lyrics and a known composer (not trad. as labelled on the album).

The song is about the Stone being repatriated to Scotland from Westminster Abbey by Ian Hamilton and friends in 1950.

Re: Michael McGoldrick Aurora Track 6

It is a song named Stone of Destiny played on low whistle.
Mike McGoldrick played with Kathleen MacInnes in the Transatlantic Sessions project - there he learnt this song.
There was a video on Youtube but now I can't find.

Try Kathleen MacIness' MySpace.

Thanks

Thanks for the information and the links - problem solved - well not quite - I still have to work out the tune but this should do me good rather than relying on the dots
