Yes, I wracked my brains, what little is functioning at the moment, and I did the search engines, including Rev's, tried it in more than one key ~ and I asked at least half a dozen others. But, so far, none of us has yet come up with a name or any other information on this hornpipe. Bits of it sound familiar, but after a time, a long time, what doesn't, eh? Here's hoping you can help this orphan hornpipe to find its heritage, or at the least a name...

Re: Just another title search

If you have the recording, why do you need a title?

Re: Just another title search

Because a dear friend with terminal cancer would like the name of this...

I'm working on a slew of tunes for him, as I have for others, and this is one I'm not familiar with. Personally, like him, I like to know the name of a tune if possible, but I'm not going to lose blood if I don't score a connection that way. However, I am interested in the history of tunes, those connections that a name can open up. I get pleasure out of just playing, and just dancing, and just walking in the toolies, and farting and taking a leak too, but I also enjoy knowing more and chasing up answers and connections, and I'd like to know why when my p*ss is flourescent pink or my farts smell like roses. I'm curious about such things... AND, when someone asks me something I like to be able to give them a better answer than "It doesn't matter."

Sorry, the grouch in me is exercising himself...

The recording that was provided of this particular tune was a highly compressed MP3 of one of those raw cassette recordings made on the fly in a pub somewhere, Seamus being generous with his time and giving someone the tune and a few pointers, but not giving the name for it...

Gan ainm

If I can't find a name for it, or find it on site here, I may just have to submit it as 'gan ainm' and hope someday to find out something more about its provenance. Someone might stumble across it in the future and give this orphan its roots...
