Mrs. Kenny (Waltz in D Major)

Mrs. Kenny (Waltz in D Major)

I have a notation copy of this beautiful waltz, which I would like to play better. However, I have not been able to find an audio version of it.

In searching the web, I found a Mrs. Kenny's Barn Dance (no, that's not it!) and another Mrs. Kenny on an album with Kevin Burke, Johnny Cunningham and Christian LeMaitre which is also not a waltz.

Does anyone know where I can find an audio version of this waltz?

Marian, why don't you notate it in ABC and post it? I'd like to see the music.

I once had a copy of the live recording of Celtic Fiddle Festival (Kevin Burke, Johnny Cunningham & Chritsian LeMaitre). There was a tune on that called Mrs. Kenny's which sounded to me like a waltz - a different one perhaps.

Re: Mrs. Kenny (Waltz in D Major)

Zina, how do I submit a tune to Jeremy? Do I have to do it in ABC, or can I do it in notation, and then HE will put it in ABC?

David, I have heard the one you mention, by the three fiddlers. It's on a website where it's possible to listen to the whole recording. It's chopped up so only fragments of some of the tunes are there. But anyway, that waltz is in D, and it's called Mrs. Kenny's. But I can't see any resemblance. It is possible it COULD be the same one, but the fiddler decorates it so much I can't hear if the basic tune is in there or not. I don't think it is the same one I have in notation, though.

I'm planning to ask a good fiddler I know to try it out. Meanwhile, I will continue to hunt around. And hope, too, that anyone else here that has any ideas where it can be heard will write.

Yes, ABC is the ticket, Marion. Try it, it's not too hard -- there's some tutorials in the links section of The Session. Once you've got the hang of it, you go to the Tunes section and hit the link to put in a tune.

Hi Marion,

I just found a waltz by a similar name on Henrik Norbeck's web site. I posted it to the tunes section. Is it the same one?

Re: Mrs. Kenny (Waltz in D Major)

Hi, jm, No that's a different Mrs. K.!

When I get a chance, I will put "my" Mrs. K. into ABC, but that will be a while.

Two lucky ladies, to have such beautiful tunes dedicated to them (or did they compose the tunes? who will ever know?)
