I´ve really come to treasure the different types of information I can get here: sessions, interesting tunes, events, and, of course, discussions (where it´s sometimes nice to just have a few pages of jokes); I´m also looking forward to getting info about new recordings. Quite often lately, there were anouncements of new recordings without any comment whatsoever, neither on musicians, origins, instrumentation ...
I feel this to be a really serious disrespect of the users of these pages - and as soon as I see a new recording announced without any comment, I at once skip it - so the ones who are posting it, are IMO actually doing the musicians a disservice ... are there really recordings with nothing to say about?
I think the "really serious disrespect" here is directed towards those people who take the trouble to type in track listings and so on, only to be told that their efforts are not good enough.
In a way you have a point, but the manner in which you frame it makes me not care two figs.
Why not *kindly suggest* more comments rather than (disrespectfully?) complain about disrespect. The comments tab is not really part of the initial submission page for recordings. I didn't feel skipping it a huge oversight when I'm not much of an expert. (you really want my comment that "i think this is nice"?) Afterall, I may have come to the search page looking for info on a recording and, finding none, took the time to at least add it to the database. Sue me pal...
I have never looked on the 'recordings' section as a place to' 'announce new recordings' . It's a listing of existing recordings people happen to post, ther are old ones going back to the seventies, there are classics everybody should listen to and there are piles of recordings probably made by members or their friends nobody is ever going to see available anywhere.
Some of them have comments posted, but the comments are only worth as much as the poster's opinion and intentions. And they can vary greatly.
The listings have a greater longevity than some of the recordings listen. Often a website is listed when the posting is made, then a year, or two, later the recording has run it's course the website is taken down and the listing only carries misinformation.
I think it's a good thing the recordings section is not used as an advertising platform (well, mostly it isn't) if there is a need to knwo more about a recording, google is your friend. Any recording worth the trouble is usually available through Custy's, Claddagh and places like that. If you want one, look it up.
"are there really recordings with nothing to say about?" Plenty, in my experience. And I don't agree that not doing things your way is "really serious disrespect " of the members here.
Hmm, there are various points that can be made here.
1) As Peter ('Prof') says, the 'Recordings' page is not the place to 'announce new recordings', but a few of us here do regard it as a place to *highlight* new recordings and provide as much information as we can about a the recording itself and its availability. And, of course, the track listing links to the tunes database.
2) I've posted more than fifty recordings on this site and, I think, in every case provided details of the album's date, label, participants and any other information that might be relevant. Personally, I think it's sloppy to ignore those details and I'm sure that Kenny, who has posted more than a hundred recordings here and is equally diligent, would agree with me.
3) Many web links are indeed temporary, but it's better to have one than none at all.
4) I'm not sure why heytradbunnies has used her/his very first message on this site to slag off another member, but, hopefully, s/he will grow out of this antagonistic phase and post more valuable comments.

Re: "Newest recordings" without comments
More pointless still: Recordings listed without publication date, label, or any guidance on where to get a copy!

Re: "Newest recordings" without comments
I agree with both posts above. But then, I find it interesting and enjoyable to write a bit about albums I submit.

Yay, everyone can take offensive equally. I AM SO OFFENDED! YEAH!

Re: "Newest recordings" without comments
But DaveL35, what is the point of copying "track listings and so on" without supplying an opinion and/or a method of finding the recording?
