Give Me Your Hand

Give Me Your Hand

I was really happy to see that the waltz Give Me Your Hand is on last week's tune list.

However, there are a lot of half notes (in the notation) that appear as quarter notes. Probably just smeary ink, I thought, but when I saved the .gif file and blew it up to 700 pixels wide, many of those quarter notes are still there, making 2-beat measures (in a waltz?)

Is there any way this could be repaired in the Session's notation?

Re: Give Me Your Hand

Hi, Looking at the written notation, (and knowing the tune) when there are just two quarter notes in a measure, the first one is really
a half note.
About 8 years ago or so ago, I was taking some flute lessons from Chris Norman here in Baltimore, and we were working on this tune and adding embellishments, and he said, that he used it in his wedding. He said he stood up front on the Altar, (with his boxwood flute), and actually played it as his bride came down the aisle.

Re: Give Me Your Hand

Carl, right, true. But for people who DON'T know the tune, this sort of error can cause a great deal of problems. I have seen errors such as this spread throughout an entire genre-type community, and a while down the line, people start swearing that the tune is in 3/4 + 2/4 time, or some dumb thing.

I'm going to use the tune with friends, and it would be easier to have it corrected here than to correct it myself with white-out and pen.

Which leads me to another question -- how does a person submit a tune to The Session? I'm sure the directions are here someplace.....????

Also, I forgot how to add a tune to my tunebook????

Happy New Year, everyone!!

Re: Give Me Your Hand

Yep, you are right, I wasn't thinking of down the road problems at the moment. It is a lovely tune.

Re: Give Me Your Hand

There are, insofar as I know, only two people who can edit a tune once it has been posted: Jeremy, and the person who posted it. :)

P.S.

Marian, go to the tune section of the Session, hit the link "post a tune" and then follow directions. You'll have to know ABC -- if you don't, see the thread on ABC a few threads back. As for your tune book, you have to be logged in, firstly, and then you'll see a little link saying "Add to my tunebook" or something like on the tune page.
