Would anyone know who gives courses in luthiering in around clare, galway or limerick.Im very eager to learn the skills involved in making guitars ,bouzokis etc, so that I have a better under standing of the instruments.
St. John's College in Cork offers a course: http://www.stjohnscollege.ie/index.php?pageID=141
It says 'musical instrument making' but I knew 2 people doing it and they were both doing guitar making so it might actually be targeted at that.
The London College of Furniture Making, as was, which is now, I believe, part of the University of the Arts, has had instrument classes and courses going for many years.
I gather that most luthiers working round the UK have been there.
So, if you ever go across the sea from Ireland.....

If you just want a better understanding rather than to actually make them, there are loads of instruction videos on youtube. eg

I wouldn't knock youtube for having all sorts of little twiddles and useful bits; yet obviously not a patch on a live tutor.
