Another Mazurka question (not about the rhythm of it, don't worry!)
Another Mazurka question (not about the rhythm of it, don't worry!)
I was looking at the selection of mazurkas here and noticed there are no Irish mazurkas in minor modes (there are a few French ones, though). Does anyone know of non-major mazurkas from Ireland?
Also, as a historical question, were mazurkas (in Ireland) limited to Donegal until recordings came around?
Re: Another Mazurka question (not about the rhythm of it, don't worry!)
If you're interested in mazurkas you'll prolly like this book I have.
I flipped through it and all the tunes were in major keys, a lot of G and D and a couple in A (didn't do a proper count).
Apart from the tunes there's a lot of background info/history on Donegal mazurkas in the book. Great read, great collection of tunes and comes with a CD and a DVD. No, I don't have stock in the publishers of the book ;) It's written by Caoimhín Mac Aoidh and the ISBN is 978-0-9559031-0-6

Good questions! I can't think of a minor mazurka, don't know that many, and look forward to hearing more about their history.

Thanks zaivanbuijs.
I found it on Amazon.co.uk here:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Mazovia-Meenbanad-Donegal-Mazurkas/dp/0955903106
Though it's unavailable. It's unfortunately unavailable in the US. Out of print?
Also found this:

A CD of the tunes discussed it looks like.

Found a radio interview with Caoimhín Mac Aoidh about his book:
http://dynamic.rte.ie/quickaxs/209-rte-latesession-2009-04-12.smil
It starts ~30 minutes in. He says that he found transcripts from Cork and Armagh with mazurkas, so it used to be wider spread.
