Oooo, Oooo (waving arm), dibs on My Heart Will Go On....
(ouch, sorry.)
Okay, IF I can convince one of the locals with a minidisk recorder to leave it on one of these evenings, I'll send a track to whoever's gonna master this thing. I have no idea what tunes will be on it. Maybe I'll take a poke, so to speak, at the Atholl Highlanders....
Nawwww. Hmmm...I'll come up with some reels. Or something.
LOL -- did you read the first post in the thread, David? I'd rather not repeat unless it's necessary. Surely there are enough tunes that a hundred of us could manage not to repeat, at least among the more experienced players. I'd rather not have 15 repetitions of Maid Behind the Bar, thanks, if it's at all possible.
chalk me up for a set of three jigs. the first two i heard from john daley here in chicago. one is whelan's fancy the other is, um, in D. yup, that one after whelan's fancy in D. you know!? the third: Cliffs of Moher. (But if somebody else would really like the Cliffs, i'd be happy to put something else in there).
I was thinking I might plagiarize John Skelton & Kieran O'Hare off their Double-Barrelled CD. They open with a set of jigs - a single, a double, then a slip.
I'm thinking... If I Had a Wife/Handsome Young Maids/Paddy O'Brien's, but I have next to zero experience in actually putting sets together, if you couldn't tell already....
Also, Harry Bradley just taught us a hop jig, the Promenade which Michael Coleman played. I'd have to listen to it again to see if it would fit, it's definitely much different than a slip.
LOL -- No! See, you never listen to me. *smirk* If you want to request a tune, guys, please do it on the other thread, I'm trying to keep this one relatively clear so I can have records more easily than having to sift through a thread with other stuff on it...pleeeeeease, you guys?
Oh, Cooey's H-pipe and Tailor's T. will be on the harp, and if I do Miser's Purse that will be most likely on the harp, maybe fiddle if I don't screw it up too much....
What's a reasonable time-limit there? My favourite sets are generally longish (7+ tunes) but can easily be trimmed to taste. Not that i've any chance of doing one if i don't get my minidisk recorder back...
OK, Harvest is taken, so reels it is (bastard, now i'll have to practice). I got my set wrong, though, so i want to undib it and re-dib: Knotted Chord and Silver Spear.
My set above was my whistle/flute set. Can I have a box set also? Yeah? Thanks, Zina.
The Scholar/Heathery Breeze/ The Shaskeen/The Hunter's Purse(Reevey's Reel).
Play it steady, mind - I'm a slowcoach on the box.
Hey Zina, you nicked my favourite jig before anyone had a chance to post anything (WP).
I'll put down an option on Sheila Coyle's/The New Policeman, while they're fresh in my mind though, and before anyone else has such a terrific idea....
LOL -- privilege of poster, Ottery dear. *ahem* You may submit more than one set, and if there's room on the disc (and there's a LOT of room on an MP3 disc), we'll do whatever you submit. If there's not room, we'll pick what we consider to be the best of the lot unless you tell us what track you personally prefer.
Scottish: Cataroni (jig), Da Auld Grind (jig), Miss Spence's (reel)

The Leitrim Jig, Kid on the Mountain
That's really bizarre... not only did I post the second of those before the first (and it appeared to fail), you were bagging the same tune at the same time. Darn!
Well, I was thinking about maybe my other current fave set, only problem is I don't know the names of the tunes off-hand:

Here's my contributiion.
On my own: Mist of Clonmel / The Dusty Windowsill (or maybe Jackson's).
With the band: Anything for John Joe / Ships are sailing / The Wild Irishman.
addendum: I will add The Boys of Malin to The Miser's Purse.
I hope I'm not biting off more than I can chew....not that it's that hard of a tune, but when you're recording, suddenly everything is a little harder.....think I can do it though.
Wedding Reel as learned from Jim Connolly wonderful box player from North Leitrim and Molly Ban as learned from Joe Skelton. I might duet on that with Dublinfluter
Maudabawn Chapel was written by Ed Reavy. His son's foundation holds the copyright to the tune and expressly states that they wish for the tune not to be placed in any books, on any recordings, etc. without express permission. Martin, if you would like to do Maudabawn Chapel, before giving up, I would suggest writing Ed Reavy at ereavy (at) blueskiesink.com to get permission, my bet is an explanation of what we're doing will likely get permission.
Zina, just spoke to the Best Darn Irish Band in Chinle, we'd like to submit a track of jigs, probably Shandon Bells/Mug of Brown Ale/Cul Aodh, maybe one more. Being too lazy to skim this thread again, are you submitting a track with Ask My Father?

Dunno if it'll just be me and maybe a guitarist or if AMF will do the track with me -- doing The Rakes of Clonmel/The White Petticoat/Trip to Athlone (the middle one in honor of you, of course!). Maybe I'll do a reel set too, dunno yet.
Yah, you'll notice I was putting together a set of jigs from all the festivals I attended in 2003, I suppose RMF shall remain unspoken for. Oh, huh, except Win taught us Sonny Broghan's, I've completely forgotten it, I'd have to dig up the mini-disc! There's got to be another jig in there somewhere. As for the Cul Aodh, I saw someone request Cooley's reel, but not the jig, which we'll do in A. Does it count if it's in a different key? Hee.
update: I start my set with Farewell to Milltown ...
(hopefully no copyright restrictions - if so, any hints who holds Junior Creehans copyrights and can be asked for permission? - please send email - this thread is hijacked enough)
so the set will be: Farewell to Milltown / Buckley´s Fancy / Cooley´s Reel.
Or maybe The Reel of Mullinavat?
See what happens when you go away for Christmas. All kinds of things happen like threads disappearing and dibs lists appearing.
Is this seriously going to happen?
Sorry everyone I misunderstood what this thread was all about - I'm a newcomer after all - thought it had to do with Galway get together. I hereby cancel all my dibs and choose only one e.g.
Fig for a Kiss
I am determined to send Brad cookies in the shape of a disc, the Easter Bunny and, and, whatever the other one was, so he can eat his words, Jan. I think Emily may or may not have Handsome Young Maidens dibbed already, but she may have changed her mind -- Em, yes or no?
Go for it Emily. Don't be sorry. Saw it after, then wasn't sure whether you had changed your mind. Just love that tune, it really rocks. Thought there might be problems with some of the other ones as well Zina. Next thing is to rob a bank and book a recording studio Ooo what fun!
Ooo, ooo! Zina! If we get together before March 31st, let's do a set! Bag of Spuds, haha, maybe Bunker Hill? I'd have to really clean that up. Do you play Cup of Tea? Or Tommy Peoples? Jackie Coleman's haha... what else did we do?? Ooooo..... I'm going to email you right now!
OK then, dibs on Cup of Tea/Bag of Spuds/Bunker Hill. We'll call our set "Wyoming Picnic" haha! Can Dirk play with us? Has anyone dibbed Tobin's Favorite btw? I may need to exchange that after consulting with Others......
i dibs??/bags/shotgun Flavour of the Month and The Contradiction. i'll think of some tunes to stick into sets with those two. erm also give me the Merry Blacksmith, Ships are sailing.
OK. I know. It's really late to be doing this, but I think I'll do "Terry Teahan's Polka, Johnnie Mickey's" instead of "Terry Teahan's Polka, Britches Full of Stiches"
The Mighty Craic Dibs List
The Mighty Craic Dibs List
Right. Remember. ONLY stake your claim to tunes here. No arguing or talking over issues or hijacking, do that in the other thread, please.

Re: The Mighty Craic Dibs List
Yah, you'll notice I was putting together a set of jigs from all the festivals I attended in 2003, I suppose RMF shall remain unspoken for. Oh, huh, except Win taught us Sonny Broghan's, I've completely forgotten it, I'd have to dig up the mini-disc! There's got to be another jig in there somewhere. As for the Cul Aodh, I saw someone request Cooley's reel, but not the jig, which we'll do in A. Does it count if it's in a different key? Hee.

Re: The Mighty Craic Dibs List
update: I start my set with Farewell to Milltown ...
(hopefully no copyright restrictions - if so, any hints who holds Junior Creehans copyrights and can be asked for permission? - please send email - this thread is hijacked enough)
so the set will be: Farewell to Milltown / Buckley´s Fancy / Cooley´s Reel.

Re: The Mighty Craic Dibs List
Or maybe The Reel of Mullinavat?
See what happens when you go away for Christmas. All kinds of things happen like threads disappearing and dibs lists appearing.
Is this seriously going to happen?

Re: The Mighty Craic Dibs List
Sorry everyone I misunderstood what this thread was all about - I'm a newcomer after all - thought it had to do with Galway get together. I hereby cancel all my dibs and choose only one e.g.
Fig for a Kiss

Re: The Mighty Craic Dibs List
I am determined to send Brad cookies in the shape of a disc, the Easter Bunny and, and, whatever the other one was, so he can eat his words, Jan.
I think Emily may or may not have Handsome Young Maidens dibbed already, but she may have changed her mind -- Em, yes or no?

Re: The Mighty Craic Dibs List
Go for it Emily. Don't be sorry. Saw it after, then wasn't sure whether you had changed your mind. Just love that tune, it really rocks. Thought there might be problems with some of the other ones as well Zina. Next thing is to rob a bank and book a recording studio
Ooo what fun!

Re: The Mighty Craic Dibs List
Too many decisions to make!!!!!
Pretty Peg, Music in the Glen, The Shetland Fiddler, [Glen Road to Carrick possibly]
maybe. at least, it seems to sound OK in my head right now as a set; maybe when I actually try to play it it won't go together at all...
