To lose the extra weight that I've gained, and get more healthy.
To take the fiddling to the next level, dammit...and practice more often!
To stay as serene as is practical...
To keep on top of the laundry!
To help my students do their best and feel good about themselves...
To cook at home more often...more Indian food! More baking!
To stay on top of my client list...
And learn more tunes!
Hmm. Waitasecond, I think my resolution three years back was to stop making resolutions. *snort*
It's a Horse year next year. The Chinese dread Horse years. They're very turbulent. In Japan, the childbirth rate goes down during Horse years, because Horse children are reputed to cause turbulence (both good and bad) in families. But it's an excellent year for change and creativeness. As a Rat, I plan to keep my head down and nose to the grindstone and hope that the Horse will prance straight by!
Wow, I sound like I actually believe in that horoscope stuff. *grin*
Hey Zina! So great to read you here!!
I don't really make resolutions, but I have nice plans I just want to realise: I have the oportunity to go to Ireland 2 months in summer to be au-pair (again!!), near Dublin! That would be wunderful, for the music and everything!! Then I'll probably move (still in France), but I'll try to go ouest, in Britany, where there is a lot of Celtic music... And I'll try to play more on the flute!
I wish all the best to everyone here, for the year coming! I wish to everyone to be able to realise your plans and dreams (it happens too!!).
Frankly, I believe Cecile has the right idea: forget the diets and just travel.
I just want to be the best d--- bodran player I can be. My challenge will be to find a place I can practice regularly without driving everyone else in the household crazy.
Then again, as a fellow Rat, I think I'll join you, Zina, in hiding from what the year of the Horse could bring...are you sure this past year hasn't already been the year of the Horse?? I think I've got hoof marks.
The rest of my list includes:
Finishing the quilt I started 3 months ago.
Getting my Revolutionary War re-enactment costume done by May.
Thoroughly cleaning house.
Keeping the car operating as much as possible.
Looking for the beautiful in every person, place, and thing.
Heh. Linda, didjy'know that Rats and Horses are considered the single most unfortunate mix of signs in the entire Chinese zodiac? It's not GOOD to be a Rat in a Horse year. I'm wondering now...is this a Fire Horse year? That's considered an even more turbulent year than usual...which would explain why it's starting early!
Lizzy, if you find a set of pipes, let me know if there's two -- my husband is hunting for a set as well!
Here are my resolutions:
find or learn to make some regulators for my pipes.
learn more tunes.
play better the ones I already learned.
be a good friend to fellow musicians.
To practice my fiddle at least 5 minutes every, single day. This means that I will play at least 20 minutes, in reality, and probably will play more than that, learn a new tune, and play guitar, too! I just gotta play those first five minutes.
To do yoga at least 3x a week.
To spend less time on the internet, more time playing music with friends.
To eat balanced meals, with at least one green thing and one orange thing daily.
hmm i suppose my resolution would be to spend more time playing my guitar and to get really good. and to start gigging again. and to get out to more seisiuns and not get too drunk to play
To dance and twirl as I had done when the sun peeked through the clouds, over Tulla na Cross...To laugh like I did in the curragh with dada
while the wind blew so hard, and I, as a child thought no one could ever hear how loud I was ...and to pray as I have continued to do for those still suffering...and for myself to be able to return to Eire, by Spring.
Dhia is mhuire dhuit, agus go raibh mile agat!
Beannachtai,
Cait

Re: Resolutions for 2002
Those who's resolutions include "find some uilleann pipes"
should keep their eyes on the "wanted and for sale" link at this site (http://www.purplethorn.com/UPIL/), and the one like it at Na Piobairi Uilleann: (http://www.iol.ie/~npupipes/index.html)
Here are my resolutions:
find or learn to make some regulators for my pipes.
learn more tunes.
play better the ones I already learned.
be a good friend to fellow musicians.
Happy New Year to all of you!
