readers may wish to spare a kind thought for resident bodhran maker and session.org member mcknowall who lives on the banks of the Richmond in Kyogle, northern NSW. As some may know, due to a fifty year El Nina event, northern Australia, lately the entire State of Queensland, Australia has been inundated with fifty year event flooding. Our friend, mcknowall would, I would think, be seriously adversely affected by this natural disaster, but trusting in his Aussie ingenuity can see him floating safely towards the sea in a trusty outsized bodhran with tipper for paddle. All the best mate, hope to hear from you soon. Chin up.
Aw shucks, now I AM embarrased.
The flood was a fizzer, police came round and ordered us all out of our homes, so I booked into my local pub (paid for by State Emergency Service), got very drunk whilst watching brown water come up the main street and go back down again.
No trouble at all really, apart from green armpits.
good to hear you're ok and suffering nothing more than green armpits...lost on me that one....either to do with bodhranning, drinking or just living in Aus.
Maybe we ought to consider our buddies in Northern Ireland who aguably through climate change and having suffered an unusually cold snap which froze many pipes are now suffering leaks galore which is haemorrhaging their water supply down to zero. Hope normal service is restored soon folks.
Erm...!
I'm sorry this bloke has had a disaster in his jolly dahn under resolutely & proudly colonial but Irish (of course) culturally drum making enterprise...
Is the problem with the added humidity bolloxing up the goat skins or are they all just floating away down a river like?
Also, is 'Aussie ingenuity' any different from any other ingenuity?
see, they always know exactly where to build pubs in Australia, so even the absolutely highest flood peak will just not quite go over the top of the bar, so you can continue to sit on your bar stool and enjoy a cold one. Aussie ingenuity.

Re: climate change and bodhran making
Nice on Skull - but do you have inside knowledge about this El Nina being causally linked to climate change?

"chin up"?

Would that be fiddling, not drumming, Skull?
Seriously, all the best to you, Mcknowall.
To you and all your people.
You are in our prayers.

I think this has been posted before. Here's how they dealt with it in Ireland a few years ago.

Don't go to Queensland, McKnowall.

no, rook, "chin up" is a traditional Australian salutation meaning 'keep your head just above water and drink your beer"
