Are there any players in West Los Angeles, California, USA who wish to start a session. I've been having trouble locating a session in West LA and now I believe that there just aren't any. There are a couple of places in Santa Monica and West LA that I know of that would be willing to host sessions (or we could even use my house).
If you're interested, just reply to this discussion and I'll see what kind of response I get.
Perhaps a year ago I was out there and went to a pretty good session in Santa Monica. A pub with an Irishy name, south of I-10 very near the beach. Can you find anything listed in NUVO, etc? I think that I where I found it. Of course I can't tell you if it is still going. Someone at McCabe's music store might know.
Depending on which night of the week it is and where the session will be held, I would probably be able to go more often than not. Monday nights are reserved for the Celtic Arts Center and Thursday is reserved for something else.
Ok, the difference between a closed session and having a regular band playing in the bar would be...?
Isn't there something at "The Harp" in Costa Mesa?

ON EVERY SECOND SUNDAY OF THE MONTH AT (ABOUT) 4PM. IT'S A GOOD SESSION WITH SOME GREAT MUSICIANS, BUT TENDS TO STRUGGLE DUE TO THE LACK OF MUSICIANS THAT REGULARLY ATTEND. IF YOU'RE LOOKING FOR A GOOD SESSION OCCURING BETWEEN LOS ANGELES AND SAN DIEGO, PLEASE, COME TO THE HARP! YOU KNOW WHAT THEY SAY: THE MORE THE MERRIER!
are you sure that the Sunday night session at Finn's is closed now? I just talked to a girl at the Celtic Art Center's Monday night session last Monday and she said that she was going to go to the Sunday night session at Finn's and that she'd see me there. (Of course, she's just return from 2 weeks in the Emerald Isle, so she may be mistaken).

Man, wish I was a bit closer. (Ventura County) Let me know if you do get something started, though, and I'll try to come if I can.

The latter--Fionn McCool's--was wonderful in November.

Re: Sessions in West Los Angeles
The session on Sunday nights is at Finn McCool's in Los Angeles, but it is now a closed session, so forget about showing up and playing.
The session on Tuesday nights is still an open one, Finn McCool's in Santa Monica -- and quite good.
There used to be a beginners session at Mulligan's in the San Fernando Valley, but that ended about 6 months ago.
Ventura and LA are not too far from Santa Barbara -- we have occassional house sessions up here (about 1.5 hours from Santa Monica).
And the Celtic Arts Center -- yes.
And who knows what else ... but there can certainly be more.
The players are fabulous in the LA area. The venues are weak.
