I was just told by a friend of mine about a discussion on sessions which was broadcast yesterday (12/22/10) and is available to listen to on the WNYC website
Here's the link available for downloading
The New York Magazine piece was a good read but the wnyc radio followup didn't really add anything new to it and in fact the music clips outside of the Mona's clip at the end were ill-suited to the discussion and poorly chosen in my opinion. It could have been more thoughtful and longer and involved actual people who are involved in current Irish music session rather than a slap-dash attempt to verbalize the well-written magazine blurb by Robert Sullivan who didn't fare as well on the radio either.

Evidently there was a recent article about sessions in New York magazine, but I have yet to see that.
