Voting is happening now for the Irish Music awards.
I know who I'll be voting for - people like Paddy Keenan, Liz Carroll, John McSherry, Martin Hayes etc and not those big commercial acts like Celtic Women!
I dunno Sligeach - I see Paddy Keenan has 3 votes as best Uilleann piper and he's in second place - could hardly be described as a large electorate!! I might vote myself except that I'd object to the idea having to register as a member just to vote - they can keep their survey...
Who organises this? Who picks the nominees? Is it based on commercial success or artistic quality? I hate these things - who is qualified to say so and so is the best at anything? Competitions in the trad arts are best left to the youngsters.
