Irish tunes in Harry Potter movie (causing a wedding trend?)
Hi all -
I'ved stepped out of lurk mode to ask a vital question (hah!) that I haven't been able to answer with Google. What is the name of the tune played for the wedding scene in Deathly Hallows? What band is performing? It's driving me nuts - I've probably played that tune a hundred times, but I couldn't think of the name at at the time and the rest of the movie drove the tune from my head.
The second question is just speculation - will there be an increased demand for Irish music at weddings? And if so, will they ask us to wear embarrasing clothes?
Re: Irish tunes in Harry Potter movie (causing a wedding trend?)
I'm sorry - I'm talking about the new Harry Potter movie "The Deathly Hallows". There is nothing on YouTube except the official trailer which doesn't include the scene I'm talking about. While there may be pirated copies of the movie available somewhere, I'm afraid that copyright goons would track me down and beat me bloody if I even thought about looking for one.
My problem will be solved in six months when it comes out on DVD and I can play that scene a few times in a row. I'm afraid that the only person who can help me is someone who went to the movie and recognized the tune at the time.
Re: Irish tunes in Harry Potter movie (causing a wedding trend?)
Thank you! I feel much better. Now I need to play it for some local session folks to find out the common name here in Portland.
We took our son Friday night, but we would have gone that first day or so no matter what. (We're big geeks like that : )
The dance in the movie is (I'm pretty sure) the Haymaker's Jig. Is it as common in other parts of the world as it is in Portland? I think I've seen it danced at every ceili I have ever attended, but I don't get out of Portland much.

I missed the hornpipe ~ what scene was it in?
Mary Epworth may be in the movie, but I doubt that she did the wedding dance music. Her music is pretty modern sounding, and the wedding music was very traditional.
Re: Irish tunes in Harry Potter movie (causing a wedding trend?)
I'd just like to say that there was no music in the scene I was in !
That was the crowds in the Ministry of Magic. If you notice the moment when Harry bumps into three people and their papers go flying, at the end of a days' shooting he went up to the three of them, yes it took ALL DAY to do that bit, and shook all their hands - what a charming and polite person he is.

I saw the film this afternoon - I was a bit disappointed having read the book. Hopefully part 2 will be better.
Ach well. That is a diversion from the point of the forum. It was nice to see some traditional music in the film.

Haven't seen the film but the band may be Mary Epworth and The Jubilee Band.
