Anybody know if there are sessions over the Christmas period in Milltown Malby. I am currently trying to get away for a short break and thought Milltown a good destination.
Any info welcomed......or even alternative places.
I don't know about the last week in December, but during the first week of January you can probably count on the usual weekend sessions. At least, I hope so, since I'll be there. Jackie Daly and/or Edel Fox at Friel's. Last I knew, Josephine Marsh and Mick Kinsella were doing Saturdays at the Crosses. I think Jackie also had or has a Sunday or Monday session somewhere in town. It's been years since I've been, but I think the Blonde's on Thursdays is going strong (the time I went was on the first Thursday of January). I have sometimes heard of the Saturday session at the Crosses being canceled when someone has booked the room for a private party that time of year, but you'd have to ask directly, closer to the date.

In fact thats why Jackie doesnt play there any more, he had got Joe Burke in for a sesh and when they turned up the LL had booked a teenagers party and hadn't told Jackie!! Can you believe it!! The ignorance of the guy. Needless to say JD was mightily unimpressed!! Jackie Daly and Joe Burke! is nothing sacrosanct these days?
What ACTUALLY happened:
It was Jimmy Crowley and not Joe Burke, neither was the party for teenagers, but a group of about 20 golfers who snuck a guy with a guitar and a P A sytsem in while the landlord was in the shower. jackie and Jimmy arrived before the landlord had it dismantled.
The musicians who now play on a Saturday vary. Conor and maire Keane were playing last night
Well I dont think thats what Jackie told me, but wtf, I wasnt there so I would'nt know! and pints were being drunk so... maybe my memories not what it used to be.... Anyhow the sessions were not on a Saturday when I used to play there, jeez, well I dont think they were !! It was a few years ago.... thats my excuse and Im sticking to it! Now where did I leave my Glasses!
