Fallon's Jig?

Fallon's Jig?

Has anyone else ever heard the tune "Fallon's Jig," perhaps under a different name? (I've searched for it on this site and on the rest of the Internet but come up empty handed). An Irish box player taught it to our session the other week, but no one had ever heard of it. Despite that, the tune sounds very familiar: EAA EAA BAB G3....

Re: Fallon's Jig?

'The Fiddler's Companion' - http://www.ibiblio.org/fiddlers/FACE_FAO.htm - reckons 'Fallon's Jig' is a variant of the 'Morrison's' family of tunes. I can't lay my hands on my copy of 'Trip to Sligo' at the moment, but perhaps someone who can will be able to enlighten you regarding the transcription.

Re: Fallon's Jig?

Yeah, that definitely IS the first two measures of "The Liliting Banshee", but if you could give us a little more of the melody, t'would be helpful...

Re: Fallon's Jig?

Thanks for the tips - you're right, it's "The Lilting Banshee." The next part of what I have is Bee edB dBA GED, which confirms it as "Lilting Banshee." Thanks for that!
