howdy! maybe this isn't the right place to post it, sorry if I'm
bothering you-I'm new to this forum.
anybody has a name for this jig?
key:C (all the F are naturals)
G2G GEG ABc dcd ede fed edc dcA
G2g GEG ABc dcd ede fed edB C
gee cde fed edc d2d dcd ege fed
ege ade fed edc d2d dcd edB C
I've got it on a bootleg live recording
of McSherry brothers.It was also
recorded by Calico, in their first album
"Celanova Square", but they,as me,
have no name for this tune.
thks in advance,
michel
In the second line of the tune I think the first three notes should be "G2G", and instead of each part ending in "C" I think it should be "c3".
I suggest you submit it as a tune (together with the suggested amendments to the ABC) with the name "gan ainm" and comments about what you know about the tune. If you do this, the chances are much better that someone will come up with its real name than from this general discussion section, where it will be lost in the mists of time after a week.
When submitting it as a tune be sure to insert the "|" symbol between the bars and ":|" at the end of the first and second parts to show the repeats.
If you have any problems with this, please e-mail me off-line via this site and I'll give you a hand.

I'm meeting Tina and Joanne at a party tonight; I'll play the first part for them and see if it jogs their memories - even though it's the sisters, they'll probably remember the name of a tune their brothers played.
Actually Paul might be there too... if I can get the setting from him I'll post it in the ABC section
hej all!
thanks a lot for advices.Conan,I'm looking for your next post.
actually Tina and Joanne McSherry are too playing in that
cassette, togheter with Paul and John. It's a live recording
of a gig they performed in Germany in the 80's.
DG, basically in the ABC notation if "2" immediately follows a letter (which signifies a note of the scale) then the length of that note is doubled. Similarly, "3" after a letter means that the length of that note is now three times as long. And so on.
To find out more about how the ABC notation works (and with only a little practice it is really very easy to learn and use) go to the ABCmus website at http://www.norbeck.nu/abcmus, download a freebie version of the ABCmus application, look at the Help file and you'll find all you need to now about ABC. Alternatively, there is a link on the ABCmus website to the Official ABC Home Page, which you may prefer to go to. Other ABC applications usually have similar Help files.
