Hello there,
Does anyone have any Martin Rochford or Junior Crehan recordings I can trade for? I have some pretty nice session recordings and old 78 rpm stuff to swap with.
Thanks!
Eld
My understanding is that Junior Crehan never made any recordings, but his son and grandson worked with him in the last years of his life to create a recording by the grandson, Kevin Crehan, that is supposed to document Junior's style and repertoire as nearly as possible without being played by Junior himself. Here's the entry for this album from this site:
Junior Crehan did play three tracks on Ceol an Cláir, but I don't know if this recording is still available. I have an old tape--not even sure where that came from. Other musicians on it are Bobby Casey, Joe Ryan, John Kelly, and Patrick Kelly. Great stuff.
Eldarion, I can make you a copy on tape if you can't find Ceol an Cláir anywhere. And I'd gladly trade you for any Martin Rochford recordings you come up with.
Argh I have only a couple of Martin Rochford clips with him playing the fiddle and I'm hooked. Its a pity that there aren't very many of these in circulation..
Oh yeah my email is "Lceryth at hotmail dot com"
I have a couple of clips of Martin Rochford on my website, if you want them just copy them. One of him playing fiddle and one playing pipes. You could try custy's music for Ceol an Cláir, there's a link from my website. http://claremusic.tripod.com
There is a new Junior Crehan recording - The last house in Ballymakea. Has anyone heard it? I can't wait.
BTW, The Kevin Crehan record is pretty hard to obtain, unless you're at Willie week. I got my copy mail order from crehan's in dublin: http://www.crehans.ie/
Just email and Niall will sort you out.

Bernie,
Thanks for providing the recording of Martin Rochford. What tune is he playing on the fiddle in that recording?
