I remember seeing a TV concert programme by the "Bothy Band" - about 30 mins long, which was shown before the 1975 LP was released. First time I ever saw and heard any of messrs Molloy, Peoples and Keenan. I don't suppose anybody would know where to get a copy of that ? Would have been in the very early days of video recorders.
Kenny, if you write to RTE you might be able to get a copy of it off them. I think theres a tune off it on the first Come West Along the Road dvd, if its the same TV concert were talking about
I have a mac too and since the Bothy Band file (http://www.mediafire.com/?mzh6a9y578tpb4c) is in rar format I had to download a program to convert it to a file that iTunes can read. http://wakaba.c3.cx/s/apps/unarchiver.html offers The Unarchiver, which is a free program that works great. I made a donation since the conversion was so quick and flawless, and since I have a conscience for guys who develop great programs and offer them on an honor-pay basis. An equivalent program would sell for about $30.
There is lovely music on this early BB CD. I've heard that nobody in the Band made any money from the band back then, in hippie times, but they all seem to be doing all right these days.
Apologies, I should have indicated that the file was in *.rar format. A simple extraction facility for both Mac and PC users is available from http://www.win-rar.com.
Cocus, this wasn't an official CD, but a bootleg recording of one of the band's first gigs. However, you're right, none of the band made a penny from any of the recordings originally issued by Mulligan and licensed to labels such as Polydor and Green Linnet.
As for TBB's members 'doing all right', well that's true of Dónal, Matt, Paddy and Kevin, but I'm not sure one could say the same of Tommy, Tríona and, of course, the late and much missed Mícheál.

Re: the bothy bands first recording
It's not an album, it's an illicit bootleg.

Re: the bothy bands first recording
Thanks for the suggestion, "seamyderry", but I'm pretty sure it wasn't an RTE recording, may have been BBC N.Ireland.
