I know, it's kind of a tune request, but I want to discuss the name of it, not how it goes!
5:00 into "The Stone" on Chieftains' An Irish Evening, it's a jig that sounds like the Musical Priest (reel), just short a couple notes in each bar. Even has the major B section. Starts out bee efg fdf afd (sorry, I don't ABC), but they're playing it up a couple of steps.
Is it just their own tune? Is it simply The Musical Priest... Jig? I've been searching since forever for the name of this tune. Help me, Obi Trad Kenobi. You're my only hope.
Does anyone know this Chieftains' tune?
Does anyone know this Chieftains' tune?

The whole set, complete with overly dramatic dance is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xtrW667e7ps

Re: Does anyone know this Chieftains' tune?
I think you're right--sounds like Musical Priest as a jig to me. Not unusual to nudge a tune into a different meter like that.
