Brendy Mulholland - What a flute player!

Brendy Mulholland - What a flute player!

At our monthly session on Friday night in Lily Johnson's (formerly McGeowns) in Glenavy (Co. Antrim) Brendy Mulholland dandered across the road from his house to join us.

At the end of the night i asked him to 'play us something f*cking class'.

Unfortunately our banjo player missed Brendy's tasteful interpretation of the air 'Hills above Drumquin' and most of the testing hornpipe but he caught the reel...

Have a listen!!

You can here tracks from the album here - http://www.myspace.com/brendanmulholland.

Is Brendan any relation to Mary Mulholland?

Re: Brendy Mulholland - What a flute player!

'Here here' indeed! It should, of course, have read '...hear...here'.

Re: Brendy Mulholland - What a flute player!

Coincidentally, The Observer gave away a free DVD of David Lynch's 'Mulholland Drive' today.

Re: Brendy Mulholland - What a flute player!

And where was I during this?

Having carried you all for the entire evening, including Brendy, I assume I was at the bar seeking remuneration.

As I said earlier in the evening my rendition of "John O'Dreams" made even Brendy sound good.

But do I get any thanks????????

PS: Brendy is not related to Mary, He does have a talented brother who used to play music with some of us, goes by the name "The Unreliable"

I have no idea why.

Re: Brendy Mulholland - What a flute player!

Yeah, he keeps getting better too. I heard/met him a couple of years ago, and then again this summer. Up until a few years ago, his technique was absolutely brilliant, and what he did just bowled you over. Now, there's all that plus, somehow, an extra dimension. It just gets to me now. It's almost made me wonder if something has happened in his life. He really is something special.

Re: Brendy Mulholland - What a flute player!

Yeh this lad can play or should I say talks to the flute and it talks back, and for me the most unfortunate point, is when you look at the music scene today in terms of flute playing, does it know this lad is here, and playing at a level which sits beside and above the very very best of flute player,s is this talent being recognised,if not my question to the music world is why not?
It is time the doors were open.
I also have to say it is great to have spent time finding players like this he is not on his own.
