R.I.P Warren Argo

R.I.P Warren Argo

Warren Argo passed away yesterday. While he was not a strickly Irish musician, he was a huge presence in traditional music and dance communities all over the US so I'm sure some of you encountered him at festival, concerts, and dances. He was a great old time musician, playing fiddle, banjo, and guitar, but over the 30 years I knew him, I had a good few Irish and Scottish tunes with him as well. He was an outstanding dance caller and teacher. Plus, he was a genius at managing sound for dances and concerts.

“Is there not a certain satisfaction in the fact that natural limits are set to the life of an individual, so that at its conclusion it may appear as a work of art?” - Albert Einstein

I love this quote from the Centrum newsletter's article about Warren's passing (apparently had been used for his 50th birthday party invitation). He leaves a huge void in the old time music scene here in Seattle. Fortunately there do seem to be a lot of enthusiastic young old time musicians ready to take up the cause.

Re: R.I.P Warren Argo

I knew Warren and the rest of the Gyppos in the 1970's. Played many a fine tune with them on the West Coast. He was a lovely man and will be missed.

Re: R.I.P Warren Argo

I knew Warren Argo for many, many years. He ran sound and logistics for at least a hundred gigs that I played.

He was one of those people that, when you saw him, there would be a great, grand hug, a serious look in the eye, and a feeling of artistic kinship that would warm your heart.

A seriously great guitar player, Warren loved American Old Time music and was a legend in the Seattle scene. He was also involved in the development and distribution of Mackey equipment, and recording studios in the western US,
Rest in peace, Warren.

You'll live in pleasant memories.
