Blackthorne Resort lost to Fire
"EAST DURHAM — Fun and festivity at the 13th Anniversary Catskill Mountain Thunder motorcycle celebration at Blackthorne Resort, in East Durham, turned to fire, loss, and heartbreak Saturday afternoon as the facility’s main building was lost to a massive fire during the middle of the third day of the weekend long event.
The building contained Blackthorne’s pub, nightclub, dining room, and lodging...."
Re: Sad news about the Blackthorne Resort in East Durham, NY
We were in the pub there during the CAIW for a session with Liz Carrol, Mary Coogan, Felix Dolan, Joanie Madden and Billy McComiskey to name a few. Really unbelievable.
The place was packed.
Sad to hear. With the terrible economy in the Catskills though, one has to wonder if the place will get rebuilt.

The Handel Family who owe the Blackthorne Resort along with the recently acquired Weldon House are principle business people in East Durham and are committed to making their living there so you can be sure it will be rebuilt and I wouldn't bet against them doing it by next season. The doom and gloom Catskills folks will have to bark up another tree in my opinion though this is a huge personal loss for the family and very upsetting. They are survivors and hopefully folks in town and out of town who love the Catskills will rally around and support them.

How nice to read a report from Daily Mail that only gives the news, not opinion from a skewed political viewpoint - you don't know what the papers are like in England - even if it's bad news.
Never been to the Catskills- might have driven through them.
Re: Sad news about the Blackthorne Resort in East Durham, NY
Thanks for the wishes everyone. I just want to let the Session.org community know that Blackthorne will remain open for the remainder of our season this year, and that we will also be around next year. Our pavilion has already been paved and we are in the process of enclosing and heating it so that it can serve as a makeshift bar and dining room until a permanent structure can be build this winter and next spring. Hope to see you all next July for some great craic!

That's sad to hear. I stayed there one year for Irish Arts Week.
