Ambushed

Ambushed

When I bought the Irish flute I was thinking it would be a temp standin for the good silver when I travelled . Pretty well as soon as I got it I got ambushed by the thrill of its sound, its simplicity and the new sight into trad Irish music it gave me. Synchronistically (sp) I discovered this site which introduced me to yet more levels of this music. I have been cleaning out a space in my head to stash tunes so I can retreive them, thanks for the tune memory tips.
What I'm saying is I was completely unprepared for the obsession that overtook me. Now i purposefully detour through parking garages and starewells so I can whip out the Clarke and work on some tunes. I hardly play the silver anymore.
It is wonderful to get ambushed in this way.Nice to cyber meet you folks though I feel a bit of an interloper.
Plus, I just got a big Canada Council grant today, ach, what a boost to sagging spirits and thin pocketbooks. Sooo, maybe I can think about a wooden flute while I still got some cash.
So, its kind of a good day.
BTW, Matt, do you know a young woman, I think her name is Mattie Rankin. She was a student of mine some years ago at NSCAD ( Nova Scotia College of Art and Design), a wonderful person, a very promising drawer and a good fiddle player. I hear she is working at the Neptune?

Re: Ambushed

Presumably that Mairi Rankin, though it's pronounced Maddy. Cousin to the famous Rankin family. Member of the band Beolach, with Wendy MacIsaac, Mac Morin, Ryan J. MacNeil, and Patrick Gillis. She also has a nice solo CD out.
