Whistles in Toronto

Whistles in Toronto

I am looking for a music store in Toronto or the surrounding area that might have a few different whistles to try out. Or if there are any makers in the area that would help as well.

I'm willing to spend up to $100 on one for now.

Thanks!

Re: Whistles in Toronto

Get a plain old Clarke or Generation, and save yourself about $90. It ain't the whistle, its the player that makes the difference!

Sam, give me a call or an email. There was only one store that ever had any high end ones, but you're better off just getting a feadog or a generation (not a clarke though, since they aren't tuneable) and playing it for a few years.

Hey Sam

I've got a nice brass generation that you can have. I'm not much of a judge, but everyone that plays it likes it and tries to take it from me.

Hey, I thought I had first dibs on that one!

All the generation Ds I've tried in the last few years have been great whistles.

Re: Whistles in Toronto

The Recorder Shop on Dovercourt north of Bloor sells occasional decent whistles. John Firth sells Oaks, which are similar to Generations, but heavier gauge tube, as well as the newer Ralph Sweet model, which is delrin, but a decent player. He occasionally sells other interesting whistles. He also sells Susatos, seen as the doom of many a session in the hands of the witless who love their 747 like acoustic qualities.

Buy what you like and play it well.
