I found a web site about a year ago that had recordings of John Joe playing the flute. I would love to find it again if anyone knows what I'm talking about; I think it had something to do with Comhaltas. Any other known recordings of him playing flute would be much appreciated.
Hi sean - if the old grey cells are still working, I think I had a discussion about the "Belhavel" trio recording some years ago, and a very kind lady in Germany sent me a copy on CD. I must still have it somewhere, and will send you a pm if I manage to find it. I don't have the "Fluters" recording, and know for a fact that it won't be being made available again, so can't help you with that, I'm afraid. I'll let you know how I get on with the search later today.
Good news and bad news, sean og. I found the recording, but unfortunately the recording passed on to me has automatically chopped the tracks up into 1 minute segments, so there's an annoying break in the music every 60 seconds. The other thing is that there isn't all that much of JJG on the recording. 2 of his 3 solo tracks are on fiddle. The only flute solos are on "The Sailor On The Rock" and "Happy To Meet, Sorry To Part".
There's quite a bit about John Joe in Seamus Tansey's "Bardic Apostles of Inisfree - vol 2", if you wanted to find out a bit moe about him.

Cheers, Kenny. I wonder where I can dig this up. I think I've bought all the decent records at Claddagh!

Re: John Joe Gardiner flute recordings
Somebody in the USA is flogging a copy of "Ceol Tire" on eBay at the moment, or perhaps I should say "trying" to flog it. Asking price is £63. !!!
