Any more sessions in Boston, MA?

Any more sessions in Boston, MA?

Visiting Boston for the very first time and had been expecting to discover LOTS of sessions there, but see only three listed on thesession.org, at least one of which looks like it has closed down.

Are there more more lurking, undisclosed?

Re: Any more sessions in Boston, MA?

Tommy Doyle's has a song session (no tunes unless someone's dancing) on Monday nights and tunes on Wednesday and Thursday. They're both on the early side - 6-8 wednesday and a bit later on Thursday - but the tunes are good. I'm there some of the Wednesdays lately.

You might try some of the surrounding areas - Dorchester (though the Banshee is gone), Cambridge, Somerville, and Gloucester all have or have recently had sessions.

(of those towns, all but Gloucester are basically Boston, of course)

Re: Any more sessions in Boston, MA?

I wish I had more to offer. I live close enough to Boston to know there are lots of sessions to choose from, but far enough away that I don't know a lot of specifics... ;-)

I go often to the Green Briar on Mondays and the Skellig (Waltham) on Tuesdays.

The Burren is 7 nights a week after 9.00 pm- Tommy and Louise play some great music!

"The Burren is 7 nights a week after 9.00 pm- Tommy and Louise play some great music!"

There are no sessions at the Burren on Tuesday/Wednesday, and the Sunday session is only at 3pm. Tommy & Louise do play great stuff, but they live in Galway full time now, and only come back for the occasional visit.

The musicians that play there are good, but the loud room and the microphones you have to play into tend to put people off from sitting in.

The best resource for finding out about sessions in town is still the green Irish Emigrant paper that one can find in most Irish pubs around town. Check the advertisements inside to see what the session schedule is.

Thanks Georgi, I guess my informative bias is out of date- I haven't lived in Boston for a number of years, so I'll submit to local up to date knowledge!

Here's the on-line version of the Irish Emigrant:
