Letterkenny Comhaltas in Donegal has created a website and are looking for support and feedback for the local branch. The site hosts the latest information on the branch and local events as well as a quarterly newsletter and tunes played at the branches sessions that are downloadable. Have a look and let me now what you think.
Lovely website, looks promising, and a definite magnet to get involved if we were back there. I'm also pleased to see that it offers both Gaeilge and English, and that the usual focus on education continues forward.. But, the 'Music' is a bit over balanced in my impressions of it. A third of what's on offer is compositions by one particular composer, from OK to slightly squiff. It would make one wonder who the webmaster is, of if it is an important member of the board. It wouldn't be Hughie Gallagher who's the chairman or webmaster would it? But the website is a nice clean design and easy to navigate, promising, attractive. Let's just hope that over time more traditional tunes find their way onto your list of music, and more thought put into the choice of 'compositions'...
Now, if it were three compositions by three different local folk, it might have had a slightly more favourable view from me, though mostly my opinion of it is good...
When you click on the Cordal Jig - the title at base says Sentry Hill - but anyways, would yous not be better off having sound recordings if these are for the benefit of local students. Again, anytime I had anything to do with Comhaltas music classes - the tunes were not written out in staff notation but instead in letters. Maybe you do things different up in Donegal!
Good point on the letter notation as well as the recordings. Never thought on the notation but the recordings are something we hope to have up in September when classes begin again.
I would dispense with the moving pictures, or at least give us time to read the blurbs. Animations are best left for advertising companies trying to get our attention. On a web site like this, you already have it, and we [OK, I] don't want distractions.
All great and constructive suggestions. I'm also not fond of unnecessary animations, 'Flash', etc. I'd missed the reversed pictures, but then I'm a lefty. Maybe that's what I particularly liked about the website, subconsciously.

Re: www.comhaltasletterkenny.com
Do you really have both a left handed PA and button box player as in the top of the page?

Re: www.comhaltasletterkenny.com
And a left handed whistle player too. I suspect the images have just been reversed. Good spot though.

Re: www.comhaltasletterkenny.com
Well spotted the Box player is right handed but had to reverse the image to balance the centre peice. Sharp eyes though!!!
