Hi there,
my daughter is currently playing on 1/4 size fiddle, chinese make. I wanted to get her a better quality fiddle when she moves on to half size. Does anyone know where to purchase a good quality 1/2 size fiddle? Thanks for your help.
In Ireland it's nearly impossible to get small size fiddles that are not made in Chinese prison camps.
Here is a source for excellent quality violins made in Eastern Europe: http://www.bluedanubeviolins.com/
I have a German 3/4 that I bought from a fiddle shop. I couldn't find a 1/2 that seemed worth it, by the time I found this and bit, the child could fit on it. Keep looking, they are out there.
Hi there,
thank you for your help. I am living in Waterford and have phoned around a good few music shops but none seem to have half size. Will try link above, thanks again. Christina
Would not be better to buy a resonably good 1/2 like a Boorinwood @ £70 post paid ( to W.ford from Omagh ) & then when the player is fit to go 4/4, buy a good one then, possibly a Franz Sandner German made one. There's plenty of full size in the 2nd hand scene, because few people want to pay the same price as a 4/4 ( multi hundred £ ), & useful only a short time then " too small "
Many thanks for getting back to me. The addr. is O'Neills of Gortin. It's 10 miles from Omagh. We don't have "red caps " etc, so no parking probs. Open 7 days -- 17.50 ( later by request ) Euro accepted
Hey wil you be up at the fleadh at all? Am from Cavan myself and we have a half size fiddle here at home that we've been trying to sell. Its a good one for someone starting!!
