Button/note Layout of CGF button accordian?

Button/note Layout of CGF button accordian?

Hello all :) I recently bought a used accordion, and am trying to learn to play it, unfortunately it came with no book. I have searched high and low for a book to show me what notes were on each row - there are none in the city... [I play the bagpipes and wanted to try and play some of this music on my accordion, but don't know which buttons to press. ]

As well, I read in one of the discussions about converting music to numbers, Does anyone know how this is done as my husband does not read music.
Any web links or book suggestions would be greatly appreciated,
Cheers,
Sandra

Do you have an electronic tuner? Press or pull a few buttons and see what notes come up? That might help to get you started.

yet another great question for http://melodeon.net

Try this button diagram for a Hohner Corona in G/C/F tuning:

Re: Button/note Layout of CGF button accordian?

If you want to continue with the idea of Irish on the GCF, write to melodeon.net as there are many there who love the idea of trying such things on instruments in what many of us would find unlikely keys.

Should we be having the same argument on different lists?

Re: Button/note Layout of CGF button accordian?

A lot of people play decent Irish music by crossing rows on international system diatonics like the GCF, or by playing similarly on two-row instruments with rows a fifth apart. Such boxes are also popular in Canada. My only gripe with the GCF is that you can't play it exactly as you'd play a G/C because it's basically a CF box with a helper row in low G but that's a personal preference... you could alter the tuning a little bit, if you cared to invest some money to change the basses and the G row's treble notes.

Hohner publishes an instructional book that accompanies its new accordions, called "The Art if Playing Hohner Diatonic Accordions which isn't aimed at trad players but is a basic primer for playing the box (across the rows and making full use of basses, as it is). I found the book very helpful when I first started playing, which kept me from playing everything along the rows like two single row melodeons in one box.

The book's cheap, too, and includes lessons of increasing skill level with sheet music.
